Lock Help: How to Open a Safe
Your Home Advantage Safe is equipped with a Sargent & Greenleaf (S&G) electronic lock. Review the resources below to learn how to open your safe lock when you purchase a safe and how to troubleshoot issues with your combination.
Opening Your Safe for the First Time.
All Home Advantage Safes use 1-2-3-4-5-6-# as the factory-default code. This allows you to open your safe for the first time without having to locate a unique number or guess. After opening your safe for the first time with the factory-default number, you can change it to a unique 6-digit code.
Always perform lock programming changes with the safe door open. This way, you can verify your new code without becoming locked out.
Recovering Your Safe Combination.
Forgot your code? Liberty Safe is here to help with our combination code recovery service. To recover your code, you will need:
- Your safe’s serial number, located on the back of the safe.
- Proof of purchase if you have not registered your safe yet or you bought your safe less than 90 days ago.
- A completed code recovery form signed by a Notary Public.
- Payment to cover the code recovery processing fee.
Removing Your Safe Combination.
Liberty Safe offers the option to remove your master code from our records. Our safe combination removal service ensures that your master code can never be retrieved from our records. Before completing this process, please note that it prevents Liberty Safe from assisting with future requests for combination code recovery if you get locked out.
Keeping Your Combination Code Secure.
An electronic lock is only as secure as the code you set and where you store it. To protect your irreplaceable items, follow these tips for keeping your code safe:
- Write down your serial number and store it in a secure location outside of your safe. While you can always check the serial number on the back of your safe, this prevents the need to move your safe after it is installed.
- Store your code in an encrypted password manager rather than writing it on a sticky note or typing it into a generic note app on your phone or computer.
- If sharing your code with a trusted contact, do not text or email it in plain text. Instead, share it in person or verbally through an encrypted messaging app.
